“My phalange comprises not of ten, nor a hundred but thousands of Helping Spirits. I am the one who reaches to the very depths of the abyss to save a soul.” – Dr. Augusto de Almeida.

Dr Augusto de Almeida is one of the principle entities that heals through John of God at the Casa de Dom Inacio. Very little is recorded about his life, but it is said he was in the military, a rubber tapper and a doctor in previous incarnations.

Heather Cummings says (HealingQuests.com) that when Dr Augusto incorporates he is recognized for his strong personality and his somewhat authoritarian manner. He is known to be extremely kind and is deeply loved by all.

This is the entity at the Casa with whom I’m most connected. Perhaps it’s because he’s a doctor? But on my first trip to the casa I realised how fearful I was about myself or other pilgrims being subjected to harsh treatments including visible operations. I have seen other healer mediums and experienced their single-mindedness.

I hesitantly got into the line and as I moved through the current room towards John of God I felm my heart open and I began to weep. I realised how much I’d be brutalised by my medical training and that John of God would never, hurt or impose his will on me or anyone else.

I was later told that the entity I had encountered was Dr Almeida. And when I saw this picture of him hanging on the casa wall, I felt strangely and deeply connected. During subsequent visits to the casa I have been directed to attend his sessions. And, in my own clinc I often feel his presence.

The spiritual patron of the clinic, Saint Ignatius de Loyola. For many years, Saint Ignatius de Loyola has been John of God’s main spiritual guide and worked with him to heal countless people. In the gardens of the clinic is a bronze bust of the saint with the following inscription.

“For those who believe, no words are necessary. For those who do not believe, no words are possible”.

Inside the clinic hangs the picture “John of God Channeling Saint Ignatius De Loyola” below. It explains the forces of love guiding the healing work of John of God. In the centre of the picture is John of God his hands resting on a reclining patient. To his right is a group of meditating mediums. Above this group is Jesus Christ with his arm extended. On Jesus’ arm are 2 entities that help with the healing work in the clinic. And at John of God’s side, guiding his hands, is Saint Ignatius de Loyola receiving energy from Jesus Christ. We clearly see that John of God, Saint Ignatius de Loyola and the other entities are all doing the work of Jesus Christ.

Dr Oswaldo Cruz

Dr Oswaldo Cruz

Dr Oswaldo Cruz (1872–1917) is one of the entities channelled by John of God in his healing sessions.

Dr Cruz, called the sanitation doctor, was born on the 5th of August 1872 in Sao Luis do Paraitinga in Sao Paulo, Brazil. His father, Dr Bento Goncalvez Cruz was Brazil’s top public health officer under Emperor Dom Pedro II. During Oswaldo’s childood, the family moved to Rio de Janiero. Here at the age of 15 Oswaldo entered the Faculty of Medicine and at 20 graduated as a doctor specialised in water sanitation.

In his mid 20s Dr Cruz went to Paris and did research in bacteriology at the Pasteur Institute. Three years later he returned to Brazil to study and help contain the bubonic plague outbreak in the port of Santos. To facilitate this process an Institute was established and in 1902 Dr Cruz became its Director. Under his guidance the Institute earned a reputation for both research and teaching. In 1908 its name was changed to the Institute of Oswaldo Cruz.

In later years Dr Cruz became the General Director of Public Health. Dr Cruz is widely praised for his pioneering work on identifying and controlling yellow fever, bubonic plague, malaria and smallpox. Of particular importance is his use of vaccines and instituting the modern medical practices of notification, quarantine of cases, eradication of pests carrying the disease and improvement to public hygeine. Although these were not always popular public policies they were central in the eradication of epidemics of these illnesses. Dr Cruz consequently became a national hero.

For health reasons, Dr Cruz resigned from the Institute in 1915 and moved to the small city of Petropolis where he became mayor and instigated a reforming process of public sanitation and urbanisation. He died of kidney failure in 1917. Dr Cruz is remembered as the father of sanitation and environmental medicine in Brazil.
